The DIY market has experienced record increases since March 2020. Many French people have actually taken advantage of the confinements to beautify, renovate and reorganize their homes. And this trend continues this summer. The sector is still experiencing a craze among individuals, an influx in DIY stores and DIY tutorials.
DIY work continues
It is true that many individuals have taken advantage of the deconfinement to go on vacation, but many people have also decided to continue and finish their work at home. Mélanie, an accountant who works in a car dealership in Villemomble, for example, decided to put the finishing touches to the garden shed she made herself during the lockdown. This woman had been telecommuting since the start of confinement and she took advantage of her free time to do DIY. Among other things, she set up a library, renovated a table and installed a glass roof in her kitchen. It should be noted that some individuals have even managed to bring large DIY projects like house insulation or roof renovations to fruition during containment.
DIY stores saw an increase in sales
This summer, the DIY sector did well in France. People continued to frequent DIY stores like Castorama, Brico Dépôt, and Leroy Merlin to purchase DIY materials and tools. It should be remembered that the sector has already experienced nearly 31 billion euros in 2020, an increase of 13%, and it is not ready to slow down. When it comes to online sales, DIY platforms are also recording some pretty impressive numbers, like 100% growth rates last year ... Among the products most popular with consumers since the start of containment, it is worth mentioning tools, the paint and drugstore department and wooden boards.
Tutorials are becoming a trend
In addition, tutorials have also multiplied in recent months. Some startups publish videos, give training and offer online discussion sites. Aside from that, more and less experienced DIY enthusiasts also share tips to encourage novices to get their hands dirty and get started.
