You have surely heard of Carole Reimel. It is the woman who fills the holes in Brittany with mosaics. This neo-artist does not hesitate to embellish the city of Vannes (Morbihan) by repairing small holes in a poetic way. It does not lack inspiration and creativity to make the streets of the city more aesthetic and stylish.
Carole Reimel in the city of Vannes
Carole Reimel has converted professionally to mosaic. She left her old job in order to focus on making credenzas, floor mats, earthenware, ... She has been living in Morbihan for more than 5 years and towards the beginning of this year, she decided to make a gesture for the city by filling in the holes with mosaics.
According to journalists, Carole Reimel has already filled 14 holes. And she still intends to continue until most of the holes in the city disappear. Not only does she contribute to the beautification of the city, but she shares her passion for mosaics.
She reveals to the inhabitants the beauty of these small tiles as well as the kind of art that can be achieved with them. In simple terms, Carole Reimel has made the alleys of Vannes her place of expression.
Other artists who became famous by repairing roads with mosaics
It should be noted that Carole Reimel is not the first person to have done this sort of thing. An artist by the name of EmEmEm is also well known for his ability to create real street art with recycled materials.
He started by using variegated tiles to fill the hole in Lyon in 2016. Then he turned to earthenware and repaired sidewalks and roads in various cities including Paris, Madrid, Turin and Genoa.
Before EmEmEm, there was also this famous Invader or Franck Slama. The latter has created characters called Space invaders that he sticks everywhere from simple tiles. He is one of the most famous tilers in the world, although he has remained anonymous until now. In fact, this street artist fulfills his mission to perfection. He has already produced more than 4,000 works and is also available in various art galleries and on Artsper.
As Carole Reimel explained, this isn't the first time great artists have patched up holes and potholes. She actually confirmed that: “I have already seen this type of creation in several cities in France. I thought we could do the same here.”
