Tile is the name given to the tools used to cut tiles. It was initially a registered trademark of the PRCI company, but then it became the name of all the tile cutters used by tilers and DIY enthusiasts.
Nowadays, there are two main types of tiling: the manual tiling and the electric tiling. The manual tiling is dedicated to straight cuts of medium-thick tiles not exceeding 10 mm.
The electric tiler, on the other hand, is intended for straight, bevelled and rounded cuts of all types of tiles. These tiles guarantee an impeccable result. But you have to learn how to use it.
How to use a manual tile cutter?
To use a manual tile, you must start by taking a pencil and drawing the cutting line on the tile. Then, the tile must be placed on the plate of the device and the cutting line must be positioned opposite the mark.
The next step is to make a first cut by moving the wheel of the mobile carriage on the cut line and favouring constant pressure. Afterwards, you have to repeat these gestures several times until the device manages to scratch the tile, and you have to lower the lever of the mobile carriage on the tile quickly and sharply.
How to use an electric tile?
To use an electric tile cutter, you must first protect your hands with gloves and put on goggles, a helmet and a mask. The tile must then be placed on a flat and stable surface. Then, install the blade and properly tighten the nut.
The next step is to fill the water tank, which cools the blade while cutting tiles. Afterwards, the side guide must be adjusted to the desired measurement or angle. Once ready, all you have to do is plug in the device and turn it on. And finally, the tile to be treated must be slowly advanced along the side guide towards the blade.
Nota Bene
To cut XXL tiles, it is advisable to proceed in two stages. First, cut the tile in half. Then, you have to turn off the tile and turn the tile over. Secondly, the machine must be turned on again and the other half of the tile must be processed.
Here, it should be clarified that the electric tile cutter must always be switched off during manipulations in order to optimize the safety of the user.
